Yom Kippur … the Controversy

There is a controversy as to when Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) actually occurs. According to the Rabbinic calendar, it is to start tonight. But look at the verse…
Leviticus 23:27 (CJB)
27 “The tenth day of this seventh month is Yom-Kippur; you are to have a holy convocation, you are to deny yourselves, and you are to bring an offering made by fire to Adonai.
So we must know when the month started to know when the 10th day is.
The only feast day that starts on the new moon is the Feast of Trumpets Numbers 29:1 (CJB)
1 “‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you are to have a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work; it is a day of blowing the shofar for you.
He Created the Moon for Holidays
There can be no doubt that the biblical Holidays are dependent on the moon. The strongest proof of this is the passage in Ps 104:19 which declares:
“He created the moon for Mo’adim [appointed times]”
The Hebrew term Mo’adim [appointed times] is the same word used to describe the Biblical Holidays. Leviticus 23, which contains a catalog of the Biblical Holidays opens with the statement: “These are the Mo’adim [appointed times] of YHWH, (Yahweh, Adonai, God, blessed be His Name)  holy convocations which you shall proclaim in their appointed times [Mo’adam].” So when the Psalmist tells us that God created the moon for Mo’adim [appointed times] he means that the moon was created to determine the time of the Mo’adim of YHWH, that is, the Biblical Holidays.
People were deceived into changing the feast times, Holy days, even our weekly Shabbat after the first century. For the sake of convenience they are willing to compromise on this issue….I am not so willing.

The moon was sighted on Monday May 25th. On Monday May 25, 2009 the new moon was sighted from Israel. The moon was first sighted from Jerusalem by David Cachicas at 19:46 and shortly thereafter by Nehemia Gordon, Devorah Gordon, Yehoshua Newman, Joelle Crawshaw, Eli Crawshaw, Rick Busenbark, Aviva Azkerman, Sam Crawshaw and Adam Kinghorn. Below are photos of the new moon over Jerusalem taken by Yehoshua Newman: source http://www.karaite-korner.org/kknmr.shtml.
According to scripture previously mentioned Yom Kippur is 10 days later and Sukkot is 5 days after that.

Therefore, Yom Kippur begins Tuesday night and ends Wednesday night. At least, according to the Torah.
